Bienvenido a Santiago

Santiago de los Caballeros is the second largest city in the Dominican Republic. It is located in the Cibao Valley about an hour south of the Dominican North Coast. Recent estimates show the population around a 1,000,000 people.

One of the things I like about my life style here is the laid back nature and not being as high pressure like back home. One of the most frustrating things about living here is the laid back nature. Driving in Dominican Republic takes the meaning of defensive driving to a new level, it is not for the faint hearted.

One reason I like Santiago is that it is not a tourist town. One of the problems that visitors face is that one thinks that there are no “touristy” things to do. As my wife continues to teach me the city, I find that there is more here than meets the eye. For those days where we want to get away and do the touristy things, then Puerto Plata and Sosua are only an hour and half away. Santo Domingo, with zona colonial is 2 hours the other direction.

I have put into place an hotel booking engine. From the menu you can go straight to one of the major cities here in the Dominican Republic or do a search for any wheres in the world off the search page. Another feature of this booking engine is that you can book half day and full day tours from several of the cities around the island.

The booking engine is powered by World Choice Travel (WCT). More information on them along with contact and reservation info can be found on the About Us page.

Santiago Interactive Map

Check out our Interactive map. Due to the fact that we are in the Dominican Republic and not the US or Europe, we can only display the satelite photo and not the road map. But once you start moving around you will find that this map is actually pretty good. I have marked a couple of the places of interest.  Would like to back those up with photos posted around the site or maybe a photo gallery.

Living in Santiago is a source of information for those visiting the Dominican Republic. We specilize in Santiago but will also have real estate listings of other Dominican cities. If you need info on insurance, lawyers, real estate, hotels, sites to see, Living in Santiago will be your source.
